English football could miss most of September due to the passing of Queen Elizabeth ll

The world of football in the UK came to a standstill on Friday the 9th of September, a day after the announcement of the Queen’s passing. That weekend, every football game was called off as a mark of respect.

Football matches are due to start again today (Monday the 12th of September) BUT an announcement from the FA also made today, (Monday the 12th of September) has said that different matches could be called off due to the lack of police and other resources to help control safety at matches.

With the International break due to start on Monday the 19th of September – (the day of the Queen’s funeral) and end on September the 27th, we might not see a full UK football fixture list until October, which could put huge pressure on the FA, football teams, players and fans!

The World Cup is due to start in November, so the fixture is already rammed BUT this unforeseen two-week break has just added more fixtures to that packed schedule.

Arsenal’s Europa League group game against PSV Eindhoven at the Emirates on Thursday 15th September has also been postponed due to the lack of police available for that game.

The Queen will lie in state at Westminster Hall in London from Wednesday 14th September at 5 pm until 6:30 am Monday 19 September, so I would be surprised if games in and around London were to go ahead this coming weekend.  Police have been called in from all areas of the UK to help out with the public funeral which starts in Scotland and ends in London and of course the announcement of the new King and all the public duties which have been held across the UK since the announcement of the Queen’s passing.
